Automotive Production Falls in First Two Months of 2025

The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) announced production and export figures and market data for the first two months of 2025. Accordingly, total automotive production in the first two months of the year decreased by 9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 218 units. Automobile production decreased by 991 percent and reached 6 units. Total production, including tractor production, reached 141 units. Commercial vehicle production in the first two months of the year decreased by 496 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group decreased by 224 percent and in the light commercial vehicle group by 348 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 13 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 54 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 8 percent in the truck group, 62 percent in the bus-midibus group, and 64 percent in tractors.

In the first two months of the year, automotive exports decreased by 4 percent in terms of units compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 158 units. During this period, automobile exports decreased by 168 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 7 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 1 percent compared to the same period of 2024, reaching 48 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained their top place in the sectoral export ranking with 652 percent in February 2025. According to the data of Uludağ Exporters' Association (UIB), total automotive exports in the first two months decreased by 16 percent compared to the same period of 2024, reaching 1 billion dollars. In euro terms, they decreased by 5,9 percent, reaching 2 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports decreased by 5,4 percent in dollar terms, while supply industry exports increased by 3 percent.

In the January-February period of 2025, the total market decreased by 15 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 164 units. During this period, the automobile market also decreased by 324 percent and reached 10 units. In the January-February period, the total commercial vehicle market decreased by 131 percent, the heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 965 percent, and the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 31 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In February of 35, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 30 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 2025 percent.
