The afforestation campaign initiated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay after the forest fires last summer continues. The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department, which works to provide new forest areas to the city, has begun afforestation of a 10-acre area in Kızılay Neighborhood located on the upper part of the Bornova Aşık Veysel Recreation Area. With the afforestation of the sloped land owned by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the oxygen in Izmir will be increased and illegal rubble dumping in the empty area will also be prevented.
The local people are very happy
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department Afforestation Chief Fuat Karaca, who stated that planting works are continuing in the area, said, “We have taken this area under the scope of the afforestation campaign initiated by our İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay throughout the city. First of all, we made land preparations that will reduce the slope and provide water saving. For this, we determined the terraces and planting pits. We will plant over a thousand mixed trees, both coniferous and leafy. We will use false acacia, rosary, sophora, maple trees from the leafy species, and pencil cypress, which is suitable for the soil structure, from the coniferous species. We will also green the area with various plant species. While we are providing new lungs to the city, we are preventing illegal rubble dumping in the empty area here. Our people also had demands in this direction, and they are very pleased with the works.”
Breath for Bornova and the producer
Karaca stated that they also support the producer by procuring the tree and plant species used in the area from cooperatives and said, “When our work is completed, the forest area will add value to this region. Our afforestation work will continue throughout the city.”
