The second phase of the “I am the Master of My Life” training program initiated by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality for women continued with practical training on vehicle maintenance.
Supporting women to gain technical skills and become more independent in their daily lives, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, which initially provided training on basic hand tool use and repair, now offers practical training on vehicle maintenance.
Participants in the free training are informed about topics such as general vehicle introduction, wiper replacement, oil and water replacement, bulb and fuse replacement, and tire replacement. Women who learn to perform these maintenance procedures, which are frequently encountered in daily life, on their own increase their self-confidence in driving.

Sema Sultan Özdemir, who attended the training, said, “With the things we learned here, we will at least be able to change the wheels of our car. Thanks to this training, I will be able to handle my own business when I am stranded on the road without depending on others.”
Çakıroğlu, “What I Can Do with Training Already Gives Me Self-Confidence”
Emine Çakıroğlu, one of the trainees, said, “These trainings are a very well-thought-out event for women not to be dependent on men. It can also be considered an indicator of our independence. I think that at the end of the 3-week training, I will be informed about the tools. Not being dependent on anyone by doing simple activities also gives me self-confidence.”
Bodur, “We Will Be Able to Take Care of Ourselves”
Hafize Bodur, who stated that she asks for help when her car breaks down despite having been driving for many years, said, “I have been driving for 7 years. But I don’t know what to do when my car breaks down. My husband used to take care of these things, but now I will be able to do something myself thanks to the training I received here. Although these trainings are currently given to women, they have a great impact on everyone. It is a great idea that women can take care of themselves.”
Açıkgöz, “A Woman Can Do Anything in Life”
Expressing that women should be active in every aspect of life, trainee İlke Açıkgöz said, “A woman can and should be able to do everything in life. This training is a journey for this. For this reason, I would like to thank everyone, especially our President Ahmet Aras, for the training.”
President Süleyman Özdemir, “Women Will Be More Active in Social Life”
Referring to the work done in the workshop, Transportation Department Director Süleyman Özdemir said, “The “I am the Master of My Life Vehicle” workshop studies that we have conducted together with the Women and Family Services Department have started. President Özge Demirel, “We Will Continue to Support and Empower Women”
Stating that the work will be spread to 13 districts, Women and Family Services Department Head Dr. Özge Demirel said, “Since our department was established; we continue our work with services that prevent violence against women, anti-discrimination policies and provide gender equality. In the first stage of the 'I am the Master of My Life' project, we tried to provide women with many skills that they can use in their working lives and at home with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting workshops. Our 8-week training continues in that section. At the same time, with the intense demand from our citizens, we started a new program with "I am the Master of My Life Vehicle". Women have great interest in our programs, and due to this intense interest, these works we have started will continue to spread in our 13 districts. We will continue to empower and support women in every field in terms of spreading gender equality and revealing that professions do not actually have a gender.”
President Aras: “We Will Work Together for an Equal Life”
Coastal Aegean Municipalities Union and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras: “We continue our work uninterruptedly so that our women can take a more active role in every area of life. Anatolian women have proven throughout history that there is nothing they cannot overcome with determination and perseverance. As the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said: ‘If a society is content with only one of the genders achieving what our century requires, that society will be weakened by more than half.’ In Muğla, women successfully serve in many areas from management to agriculture, from public transportation services to firefighting. In line with this, with the ‘I am the Master of My Life’ project we have implemented, we support women to specialize in jobs traditionally considered men’s professions. In the second phase of the program, women will receive practical training in vehicle maintenance, which will both make their daily lives easier and gain new skills. We will continue to produce projects for women to have a stronger place in social life and work together for an equal life.”
