
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which provided more than 49 million TL support to more than 250 thousand producers last year, took its place at AGROEXPO – 20th International Agriculture and Livestock Fair. Visitors showed great interest in the Agricultural Services Department stand in Fair Izmir Hall A and received information about the projects.
Hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality; Organized by Orion Fair Organization for the 20th time this year with Progen as the main sponsor, AGROEXPO-International Agriculture and Livestock Fair has opened its doors. Being the largest in Turkey and among the four largest agriculture and livestock fairs in Europe, AGROEXPO will host local and foreign guests at Fuar Izmir until February 8. With participants from 90 countries and over a thousand companies participating, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is also explaining the work it has been carrying out in the field of agriculture and livestock. The new projects to be implemented by the Metropolitan Municipality, which provided more than 2024 million liras of support to over 49 thousand producers in 250, are also being introduced at the stand.

The stand where the works carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department throughout the city are introduced is located in Fuar Izmir Hall A. At the stand; Neighborhood Gardens, Producer Markets, Can Yücel Seed Center, supports provided to producers and the Our Farmer application planned to be implemented are explained to the visitors.
Thanks to neighborhood gardens, they do not go to the market
Olya Deniz Ergüçlü, who works at the Agricultural Services Department, touched upon the importance of the neighborhood gardens in Kadifekale, Buca Mustafa Kemal Neighborhood and Bornova Meriç Yaşayan Park for women living in the region. Ergüçlü stated that with the products they grow, women both support their household economies and socialize.
Farmers will be informed in advance
Providing information on agricultural forecasting and early warning systems for producers at the stand, Derya Cansoy also gave the following information about the Our Farmer application that they will be implementing:
“The purpose of agricultural forecasting and early warning systems is to inform producers about special situations in advance and ensure that they take the necessary precautions. Information is provided via message before any problems are encountered. It is a system that allows for scheduling regarding diseases and pests. We receive information from 14 devices in different districts throughout Izmir and send messages from computers to mobile phones. In our farmer application, producers will register their lands in the application they will download to their mobile phones. The application will include weather conditions, information about prices, and an ask the engineer section. In addition, many support services such as sales and marketing will be provided.”
Education for 16 thousand people
It is also possible to get detailed information about the Can Yücel Seed Center at the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department stand. Providing information about the work carried out at the center, Işıl Eylül Adıgüzel said, “We provide education to citizens of all ages at our center. We have provided education to 16 thousand people to date. We especially include our students in production and tell them how important it is to work.”
