Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGİAD) Chairman of the Board Kaan Özhelvacı published a message on the second anniversary of the February 6th Earthquake. Respectfully and mercifully remembering those who lost their lives in the great disaster, Özhelvacı emphasized that the devastating earthquake reminded us of our responsibilities for the future, and said, “It was not the earthquake that took our lives, but the structures built with negligence.”
“We Cannot Ignore the Earthquake Reality”
EGİAD President Özhelvacı stated that the February 6th Earthquake left deep marks in the social memory and said, “That dark day we experienced two years ago left a deep wound in all of us. The recent earthquakes in the Aegean Sea have also revealed once again that our country is constantly facing this reality. We lost 2020 citizens in the earthquake we experienced in Izmir in 117. These painful experiences show us that safe construction is not a choice, but a necessity. Every day we delay in building safe cities poses a great risk for our society. If we do not take conscience and merit as our guides, we will continue to experience indescribable pain in the face of many more disasters.”
Özhelvacı stated that they continue their cooperation with the young business associations in the provinces affected by the earthquake as sister institutions and said, “Economic support is of great importance in the redevelopment process of these cities. EGİAD “As the business world, we believe that the business world should act more effectively in investing in the region. On the anniversary of the February 6 earthquake, we respectfully commemorate those who lost their lives and wish patience and endurance to those left behind. With the spirit of unity and solidarity, we will continue to work to build a safer future.”
