CargoBeamer Invests €65 Million in European Rail Network

A major step has been taken in Europe’s logistics and rail transport sector. CargoBeamer has secured €65 million in financing to develop rail terminals in Germany, Italy and other strategic locations. The investment aims to promote sustainable freight transport by increasing the company’s commitment to intermodal transport.

European Network Expands with Construction of New Terminals

With this financial support, CargoBeamer aims to build two new terminals in Kaldenkirchen, Germany, and Domodossola, Italy. The company will direct the new funds to strategic infrastructure investments, following up on the €140 million investment it previously raised to realize these projects.

The investment, which is made possible by equity and debt financing from Orion Infrastructure Capital (OIC), will enable the company to strengthen its financial resources. CargoBeamer has previously raised €90 million from institutions in Germany and Switzerland and €50 million from other investors, bringing its total financing to €12 million in 205 months.

Expansion Timeline and Future Plans

CargoBeamer plans to start construction of the new terminals in 2025 and complete them by 2026. Once these facilities are operational, the company will triple its intermodal transport network across Europe and significantly increase its efficiency. The new facilities will contribute to reducing environmental impact, particularly by facilitating freight transfers from road to rail.

The company currently operates a critical terminal in Calais, France, with the aim of shifting freight transport activities from road to rail. The new terminals in Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola aim to apply this strategy to a wider network, increasing logistics efficiency.

Innovative Steps in the Sector and the Impact of Investment

CargoBeamer CEO Nicolas Albrecht said that the OIC investment reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable logistics solutions. Albrecht noted that this partnership will accelerate the transition to environmentally friendly rail transport in Europe by increasing supply chain efficiency.

Jeremy Glick, OIC Investment Partner, emphasized that they trust CargoBeamer’s innovative approach, stating that the company’s proprietary technology aligns with their mission to build environmentally sustainable logistics infrastructure.

The Future of the Industry and the Role of CargoBeamer

CargoBeamer aims to increase the efficiency of intermodal transport with its investments. The company’s advanced technology and strategic financial support will continue to shape the future of sustainable European transport. These projects will not only help the company grow, but will also help Europe’s overall transport infrastructure become more environmentally friendly and efficient. Such investments by CargoBeamer set an important precedent for the future of rail transport and significantly strengthen the intermodal logistics network in Europe.
