Uzbekistan Takes First Step for High-Speed Railway

Uzbekistan has officially launched feasibility studies for a new high-speed railway between Tashkent and Samarkand. The new line will significantly shorten travel times and make transportation between the two cities more efficient, thanks to trains capable of speeds of up to 300 km/h.

Project Participants and Feasibility Study

The consortium responsible for developing the feasibility study consists of South Korea’s K-Rail One Team. The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan confirmed that all necessary documents for the project have been signed. The meeting, held on February 14, was attended by key participants such as Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev, South Korean Ambassador Won Do Youn, Korean Eximbank representative Sangjin Kang and First Vice President of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari Hikmatulla Rakhmetov.

Project Financing and Completion Timeline

The feasibility study is being funded by grants from Korea Eximbank. Although the exact cost of the project has not yet been disclosed, the main participants in the project include South Korean companies such as Saman Engineering, Dong Myeong Engineering Consultants, Korea Railroad Corporation and Korea National Railway.

The feasibility study is expected to be completed in March 2026. During this process, experts will analyze the route, assess passenger demand and examine the economic viability of the project. The completion of the new railway line stands out as an important transport infrastructure step for Uzbekistan.
