Türkiye Inspected 2024 Thousand Ships in 5

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that they handled more than 193 million tons of cargo with 531 port facilities open to international maritime traffic. Underlining that Turkey will be the country with the 2024th largest maritime trade fleet in the world by 11, Uraloğlu said, “Last year, we inspected nearly 5 thousand ships in ports.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu met with Regional Port Masters. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the geostrategic importance of Turkey as a country surrounded by seas on three sides and having important waterways in his statement at the meeting. Uraloğlu stated that they made significant investments in maritime under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Emphasizing that Turkey has reached a good level in maritime with these investments, Uraloğlu underlined that they will continue to work harder.

Uraloğlu also stated that they had already implemented the necessary legal regulations in order to manage both the sector and the institutions, and that they would implement the necessary regulations in the future.

More than 193 Million Tons of Cargo Handled with 531 Port Facilities

Stating that more than 193 million tons of cargo was handled with 531 port facilities open to international maritime traffic last year, Minister Uraloğlu said, “Our 71 port authorities provide service to our citizens by managing ship traffic.” Uraloğlu also emphasized the importance of ensuring navigation, life and property safety at sea, and emphasized the responsibility of port authorities in this regard.

85 Percent of World Trade is Carried Out by Sea

Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that 85 percent of world trade is carried out by sea, said, “On the one hand, we also have duties related to passenger transportation. At this point, we must ensure that people transported by sea have the opportunity to travel without a nosebleed.”

Underlining that Turkey will be the country with the 2024th largest maritime trade fleet in the world as of 11, Uraloğlu said, “Again, in our sector, we inspected nearly 5 thousand ships in ports last year. Uraloğlu, who also emphasized that improving the performance in ship inspections is also important, said, “Our work on ship insurance will be completed by our General Directorate of Maritime Affairs within this month. Uraloğlu, who stated that they put port service boats into service to increase the efficiency of port authorities, said, “These boats will be used both for inspections and to provide service to our citizens. We also plan to increase the number of these boats during the year.”

Services are Moving to Digital Environment

Uraloğlu, who drew attention to the fact that maritime is a high-income employment area but there is a problem in employing a sufficient number of qualified personnel, stated that the necessary work for this situation is being carried out by the relevant units. Uraloğlu, who stated that they transferred the services to e-government in order to provide more effective and faster service to citizens and to use the personnel more efficiently by transferring the services to the digital environment, continued his words as follows:

“We ensure that the process is managed transparently, quickly and effectively by conducting transactions online through our systems such as Port Management Information System (LYBS), Sailing Permit System (SİB), and Ship Personnel Information System (GIBS).”
