The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has decided to implement the Student Subscription Card application in order to alleviate public transportation expenses, which is one of the important expense items for students. Within the scope of the decision accepted in the February ordinary council meeting of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the public transportation expenses of students will decrease by approximately 1 percent with the new system that will start on March 50. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay said, “We will continue our efforts without slowing down to make our city a more livable city for students.”
After Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay took office, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality brought back the 90-minute free transfer system and put five express ESHOT bus lines into service with the aim of providing faster and easier public transportation between universities and student dormitories. It also decided to start the Student Subscription Card application on March 1.
480 rides for 100 TL per month
The new system, which will allow students studying in Izmir to get 480 rides for only 100 TL per month, was accepted in the February ordinary council meeting of the Metropolitan Municipality. Thus, the single ride fee of 8,58 TL will drop to 4,80 TL for students using a subscription. This will allow young people to save approximately 50 percent on transportation costs.
How to use it?
The Student Subscription Card, approved by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council and Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), will work integrated with the current Izmirim Card system. Students will be able to benefit from advantageous transportation opportunities by loading their subscriptions using the Izmirim Card mobile application. Unused boarding rights cannot be transferred to the next month. Detailed information about the Student Subscription Card and other transportation arrangements can be accessed from the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmirim Card websites and from the Hometown Communication Center ALO 153.
Student card application continues
Students who do not want to use a subscription and want to continue with the student tariff will be able to use their cards with the current system. The Student Subscription Card will be budget-friendly for students who use public transportation intensively and make a lot of boardings during the day. Students will be able to continue with the normal student tariff instead of the subscription system if they wish during the period when schools are closed and they use public transportation less.

They should only focus on their schools, lessons and future. We will continue our work without slowing down to make Izmir a more livable city for students.”
