Egepol Hospitals Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz said that the probability of seeing coronary artery occlusion, which is an insidious disease that progresses without giving any symptoms, drops down to the age of 30.
Stating that coronary artery occlusion, which is among the top 3 causes of death in the world, occurs due to genetic reasons, lifestyle and environmental effects, Prof. Dr. Kazaz stated that early diagnosis saves lives.
Giving information about the disease, Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz said, “Coronavirus occlusion disease progresses very insidiously without showing any symptoms. This disease can be insidiously enough to mislead both individuals and heart doctors. Since the disease suddenly appears, it can cause fatal results. Even someone who has no illness or complaint can have a heart attack. In fact, coronary occlusion is a genetic disorder that starts at birth. There are no symptoms in 95 percent of this disease. Or, complaints such as my stomach refluxing and hitting my chest or my cold and my back hurts may not be noticed because they are attributed to other diseases. These may actually be related to the heart. More than 90 conditions such as smoking, eating habits, stress, and high blood pressure trigger this disease.”
IT IS IN THE TOP 3 IN THE WORLD'S DEATH RANKING
Reminding that the age of coronary artery occlusion has decreased to the 30s today, Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz said, “This disease is in the top 3 in the world in terms of death. In addition, it causes heart and lung failure, which leads to the risk of losing life comfort and active productive human function. Or, blood clots together with rhythm problems can cause many organs, including the brain, to lose their functions. Even if there is no problem at the age of 30-40, it is necessary to go to the cardiology polyclinic and have routine checks and risk analysis in terms of cardiovascular health. Then, we need to create a follow-up strategy according to the results. For those over the age of 40, administering medication intravenously, known as color angiography among the public, taking a tomography film and having a coronary tomography angiography gives us 95 percent of the correct imaging and results regarding your coronary arteries. It allows us to be caught and treated at an early stage before something bad happens to us and much more easily.”
THE TREATMENT PROCESS IS PLANNED ACCORDING TO THE PATIENT'S CONDITION
Prof. Dr. Hakkı Kazaz continued as follows: “Effort tests for coronary artery occlusion may not show any findings even in check-ups, and a heart attack may occur afterwards. In cases where there is occlusion in more than one artery, effort tests and scintigraphy tests may be false negative. It may also deceive us despite the disease. We need to analyze the patient correctly and determine the correct follow-up strategy for the treatment and disease. In a family with multiple coronary artery occlusions, such as loss of life, stent application, bypass, one in every three people over the age of 45 is at risk of having a serious coronary artery disease. Depending on the patient's condition, specialist physicians may plan the treatment process and perform drug therapy, stent, balloon treatment or bypass surgery. The aim of this treatment is for the person to continue living as an active and productive individual in society without damage to the heart. For a healthy heart, measures such as walking regularly every day, not smoking, controlling weight and cholesterol, shaping life stress, and having comorbidities such as high blood pressure and diabetes treated should be taken.”
