The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's "Journey with Books" project continues with workshops and trips on books read each month. Book lovers who came together after reading Yaşar Kemal's "If They Kill the Snake" in January will read Buket Uzuner's "Water" in February.
Book lovers of Izmir continue to open the doors to different worlds with the “Journey with Books” project of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Libraries Branch Directorate. In a study organized with the Izmir Branch of the Association for Supporting Contemporary Life, Izmir residents come together at the City Library to review books. Book lovers who read Ahmet Ümit’s “Lost Gods Country” in November visited the Ancient City of Bergama after the workshop and discussed the book based on historical and mythological elements. Serra Menekay’s “Doktor Elması-Bir Kurtuluş ve Kuruluş Hikayesi” (Doctor Elması-Bir Kurtuluş ve Kuruluş Hikayesi)” was read in December. After the workshop, Ödemiş Birgi, where the book’s subject is, was visited with a guide. The book determined for January was Yaşar Kemal’s “Yılanı Öldürseler” (They Will Kill the Snake). Bookworms exchanged ideas on the themes of respect for differences, justice, humanity and nature. In February, “Su”, the first of Buket Uzuner’s Water, Earth, Air, Fire quadrilogy books, will be read.
“Journey with Books” project
The “Journey with Books” project aims to develop people’s reading, writing, listening, language use and creative thinking skills, to support their ability to express themselves through books and to facilitate their participation in social life. Participants who read a book each month hold workshops on the content of the book and also take themed trips focused on the book they read.
