Spain has entered the tender process for a new high-speed rail (HSR) line that aims to improve regional rail connectivity between Seville and Huelva. The project aims to significantly reduce travel times between both cities.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced that tender documents are ready and infrastructure operator Adif has completed the bid development process for the five planned route sections. The HSR Seville–Huelva line will be 95 km long in total and the tender process is planned to start in the first quarter of 2025.
Project Details and Features
The estimated construction cost of the new line will reach 1,608 billion euros. This project will significantly strengthen the region’s transport infrastructure by integrating Huelva into the national high-speed rail network. Trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 350 km/h and will include several bridges and a tunnel with a total length of 2 km.
A new intermediate station will also be built in La Palma del Condado, which will increase local access and reduce travel times to Seville to just 25 minutes.
Development of Spain's Railway Infrastructure
The Ministry of Transport is also continuing its work to improve the railway infrastructure in the region. The existing railway line between Huelva and Zafra will undergo significant improvements. Since 2018, a total of €120 million has been invested in the modernisation of five railway sections, with the length of the renewed sections reaching 90,5 km.
These initiatives aim to improve rail transport and enhance passenger experience, while also expanding network capacity and increasing operational efficiency through financial contributions.
The HSR Seville–Huelva line will mark a major milestone in regional transport, further strengthening Spain's rail network.
