Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made important statements in line with Turkey’s domestic production targets in railway transportation. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the “Eskişehir 5000” electric mainline locomotive produced by Turkey with domestic and national resources is an important step. This project draws attention as a new generation locomotive that can reach a speed of 140 kilometers per hour. Uraloğlu announced that these locomotives have entered the mass production phase and that 2027 locomotives will be delivered to the TCDD General Directorate of Transportation by 95.
Domestic Electric Train Sets
Another striking point in Minister Uraloğlu’s statements was the domestic electric train sets. At the ceremony held in Sakarya, the body welding ceremony of the domestic electric train sets with a speed of 225 kilometers was held. Stating that the production of the first set was completed within the scope of the “national suburban train set project”, Uraloğlu announced that 2027 more sets to be used on the Gaziray line in Gaziantep will be produced by 8. With this project, Turkey’s power in domestic train production will be increased and independence in railway transportation will be achieved.
Future Goals
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Turkey will continue to progress in railway projects and that domestic production will become more widespread. He stated that domestic and national production will create employment in the railway sector, enable technology transfer and reduce external dependency. Uraloğlu stated that these projects will both contribute to the local economy and accelerate the modernization of the national transportation network. Turkey is expected to gain great momentum in these projects by 2027.
