Mother and Daughter Injured in Munich Attack Die

A two-year-old girl and her mother died on Saturday from injuries they sustained in a car crash in Munich on Thursday that injured 37 people, Munich police said.

An Afghan national was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of deliberately driving a car into a union demonstration.

Police said the 24-year-old asylum seeker, identified by German media as Farhad N., may have had Islamist extremist motives for the attack.

"On Friday, after the incident, the suspect said 'Allahu Akbar' to the police officers and also prayed," prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann said.

The attack comes just before Germans go to the polls for the February 23 election, in which immigration is a key issue following attacks blamed on migrants.
