The Mordoğan Sea Bass Fishing Competition was held for the 14th time this year by the Karaburun Municipality. The program hosted by Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan and his wife Teoman Erdoğan at Kocakum Beach was also attended by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay and his wife Öznur Tugay.
President Dr. Cemil Tugay visited the stands set up in the competition area, greeted the fishermen and wished them a successful competition. President Tugay, who started the competition, said, “I am incredibly happy and joyful. Karaburun, Mordoğan is an incredibly beautiful place. I see that hunting is an activity carried out for sports purposes and with a sports spirit. I congratulate everyone who carries this spirit. Sportsmanship, kindness and beauty have always suited Izmir. We tried to contribute as much as we could so that more people would hear about this event. I wish everyone success. Sea bass is an excuse, friendship is wonderful.”
President Dr. Cemil Tugay, who did not leave the contestants alone throughout the night, also shared the excitement by casting a line with Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan. The competition, which continued until the first light of the morning, ended on Sunday morning.
In this year's competition, only the cast-and-pull technique was used. No live bait was used and the fish were released after being measured by the jury. The awards were given in the morning.
President Dr. Cemil Tugay, who attended the award ceremony, said, “We are living in a period when there are those who want to demoralize us all and discourage us in different areas. These gatherings of ours are a source of happiness for all of us, but also an environment of solidarity. I respectfully greet you, the modern people of Izmir who love the sea and sports, as I always do. I will be here next year as well, we will contribute even more. We will also work on other organizations inspired by this.”
Since no sea bass was caught in the sea bass category, 2 people who caught barracuda won the award. President Tugay gave the awards to Atakan Duman, who came first, and Yağız Kesici, who came second. The remaining 3 awards in the category were determined by drawing among the participants. Awards were also given in the squid and LFR fishing categories.
