A funeral ceremony was held for Furkan Sayın, who died after falling from a height while responding to a fire that broke out in Esenler, Istanbul, at the Bağcılar Group Fire Department where he worked. Sayın's family, colleagues, as well as the Union of Turkish Municipalities and the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality attended the ceremony. Ekrem İmamoğlu He also participated. Speaking at the ceremony that started with a moment of silence and prayers, İmamoğlu said, “Our condolences to all of us. Our brother Furkan is one of the most valuable employees of our noble organization; our fire department. When you look at the profession of our fire department employees, it is perhaps a profession that should be positioned in a very special place in the world. Even choosing this profession is a great light of courage. Thousands of our fellow travelers like this brave brother of ours are very special people who fight at the expense of their lives to save the lives of our people in the fire department. But unfortunately, we received the news that our brother Furkan was martyred while fighting to save the lives of people.”
“WE WILL NEVER FORGET OUR MARTYRS”
İmamoğlu, who offered his condolences to the family and colleagues of the martyred firefighter, said, “We will never forget our martyrs. We will never forget how selflessly they devoted themselves to their profession. Our prayers are with them. God willing, we will not receive such news from now on. We are very sad. We seek refuge in the Creator in such moments and say, ‘God, protect all our children, all our colleagues.’ We are very sad. May his soul rest in peace again. May he rest in peace.”
Following the ceremony, the body of Martyr Firefighter Furkan Sayın was sent to his hometown of Kastamonu. Sayın will be buried in the family cemetery after the funeral prayer to be held in the Yukarı Şehirören village of the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu on Saturday, February 15, following the noon prayer.
