MEB Launched 'Energy Friendly Blue Green School' Project

The Ministry of National Education launched the “Energy Friendly Blue Green School” project to encourage students to gain awareness of efficient use of resources, energy saving and sustainable living in line with the goals of the Turkey Century Education Model.

The project aims to increase students’ sustainability literacy and energy efficiency awareness, ensure sustainability by reducing energy consumption in school buildings, and encourage energy efficiency with practices that contribute to the environment. In addition, schools will receive the “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Label” for their energy saving and environmental awareness efforts and will undertake valuable environmental practices for both the country and the world.

Efficient use of resources in educational institutions, ensuring sustainability and supporting environmental awareness are among the priority areas of work of the Ministry. In this context, a new one has been added to the work carried out in schools.

New project for energy efficiency and sustainable living in schools is coming to life
The “Energy Friendly Blue Green School” Project aims to increase energy efficiency in schools, use natural resources consciously and raise environmental awareness in students.

The project aims to use resources such as electricity, water and fuel more efficiently in schools, to spread recycling and upcycling practices and to provide sustainable living habits to students. By increasing energy efficiency in schools, environmental awareness will be encouraged in students. In this way, it is aimed for children to grow up as individuals who respect nature, take an active role in protecting ecosystems and acquire environmentally friendly habits.

In addition, “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Activities” will be organized to increase the visibility of the “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Label” applications.

Invitation from MEB: “Leave a Blue and Green Mark on the Future”

The Ministry of National Education invited schools to participate in this awareness movement in the promotional film about the project, and gave the message, "Come on, leave your blue and green mark on the future."

The project was launched in kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools with an official letter

The “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Label Application Guide” prepared by the Ministry was also announced to the provinces with an official letter.

Within the scope of the project, schools will earn the “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Label” by meeting the specified environmentally friendly criteria.

Label assessment will be conducted on applications in two main areas in schools. Within the scope of the first area, “Consumption of Energy Resources”, studies will be scored to periodically reduce unnecessary energy consumption in schools.

Within the scope of the second area, “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Project Applications”, schools will receive points for the work they will carry out in 12 different areas.

These activities include preparing magazines, posters and brochures to raise awareness on issues such as energy efficiency, environmental protection, sustainable living, green and digital transformation, organizing nature trips, creating school action plans suitable for the climate conditions of the region, and including waste reduction and recycling and upcycling practices.

In addition, schools will participate in afforestation projects and implement environmentally friendly systems such as solar panels, rain harvesting, compost production, and mulching. “Zero waste” management practices will be supported by participating in national and international environmental projects. Contributions will be made to community services on the issues of environment, nature, sustainability, and ecological literacy, and events will be organized for parents. In addition, rainwater gardens, outdoor classrooms, soilless agriculture practices will be implemented, and eco-friendly or AGRO school libraries will be established.

Commissions are established in provinces and districts

Within the scope of the “Energy Friendly Blue Green School Project”, monitoring and evaluation committees will be established in provincial and district national education directorates. These committees will evaluate the environmentally friendly practices of the schools that apply through on-site visits.
