Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has launched the “Activity in the Park” program for Izmir residents to explore the city’s green areas and have a pleasant time. The first address of the event, which will be organized in various parks throughout the year, was Olivelo Living Park. Participants toured the unique park where the Mediterranean ecosystem is preserved with a guide, both examining living species on site and meeting with nature.
The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has launched the “Activity in the Park” program to make the city’s parks more lively and active for Izmir residents of all ages. Participants in the events organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department participate in activities such as nature walks, plant identification and cultivation, and bird watching, and have a peaceful and enjoyable day in touch with nature. The first two “Activity in the Park” meetings were held at the Olivelo Yaşayan Park in the Güzelbahçe Yelki Neighborhood of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
Olivelo's unique nature discovered
Citizens who met at the Olivelo Living Park, one of the best-preserved examples of the Mediterranean ecosystem, enjoyed the unique nature. Those who participated in the nature walk, led by the guides of the Department of Parks and Gardens, discovered the approximately two-hour route step by step and received information about the park's ecosystem. Visitors had the opportunity to watch many songbirds such as jays, blackbirds, finches, redbreasts and birds of prey such as hawks and falcons in their natural environment with binoculars and telescopes at the observation points in Olivelo.
“There is no age limit, no fee, everyone is invited”
Providing information about the age-free, free event, Adem Akyol, a guide working at the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department, said, “Olivelo Living Park is one of the most vivid examples of the Mediterranean ecosystem. We started to organize these events so that our citizens can come here and observe these species. In the program that lasts approximately two hours in Olivelo, we first explain the nature and birds of the region. Then, we try to convey everything to our guests, from how the ecosystem and trees here were formed to their relationships with each other. What is bird watching, how is it done? In which areas is it done? We explain all of these one by one. We also try to show the participants how to use binoculars and telescopes. We invite everyone to our event.”
The day and time at which the events will be held and in which park are announced to the people of Izmir via the social media accounts of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
