Italy's High-Speed Trains Are Being Renovated for German Businesses

Italy’s national rail operator Trenitalia is making significant changes to its high-speed trains for operations in Germany, a move aimed at making cross-border travel between Europe’s different rail systems smoother and safer.

New Modifications for High Speed Trains

Trenitalia has sent one of its nine ETR1000 trainsets to Alstom’s Vado Ligure facility. The trainset is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade to meet rail safety standards in Germany and increase passenger safety. The modifications include the integration of national safety systems and changes to the pantograph to adapt to Germany’s 15 kV 16,7 Hz electrification system.

Improvements on Brake and Electrical Systems

Another ETR1000 unit recently underwent significant modification at the Firenze Osmannoro maintenance yard in Italy, where a bogie was replaced and the brake systems were retuned to meet German technical requirements.

These changes will not only increase the safety and efficiency of trains, but will also make cross-border travel between Italy, Austria and Germany more comfortable and safe.

More Comfort and Security in Cross-Border Travel

Trenitalia is investing in these modifications to enable its high-speed trains to operate more efficiently and reliably across European borders. These improvements aim to increase interoperability between different railway systems, providing passengers with seamless connections between Italy, Austria and Germany. This will provide passengers with a more comfortable and efficient travel experience.

These developments make a major contribution to the integration and development of the high-speed rail network in Europe.
