Illegal Discharge Investigation Launched for Nilüfer Stream in Bursa

Nilüfer Stream, one of the important water resources of the Marmara Region, was taken under investigation in cooperation with Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, BUSKİ General Directorate and Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. With the project initiated under the coordination of Bursa Governorship, connections and outlets that cause illegal discharges are being meticulously examined.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which has taken action to ensure that Nilüfer Stream flows in a cleaner and healthier manner, continues its cleaning works initiated under the coordination of Bursa Governorship without interruption. In this context, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, BUSKİ General Directorate and Environment Urbanization and Climate Change Provincial Directorate teams are working intensively in the field to detect and eliminate the elements that cause pollution. While the inspections stand out as an important step taken to protect Bursa's environmental values, the works carried out also aim to prevent mucilage formed in the Marmara Sea. With the project, which aims to contribute to Bursa's environmental sustainability, all city stakeholders come together and sign an environmentally friendly project that will set an example for other cities.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey made a statement on the subject, saying, “Nilüfer Stream is one of the most valuable water resources of Bursa. Protecting this resource is our responsibility towards both our nature and our future. Ensuring that our Nilüfer Stream flows cleaner with such jointly conducted works is a very important step towards achieving our goal of an environmentally sensitive Bursa. These steps we take together to protect the environment will be the most valuable legacy we will leave for the future.”

BUSKİ Deputy General Manager Ali Alper Makam stated that the work was initiated with the Provincial Environment Directorate upon the initiatives of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey and the instructions of Bursa Governor Erol Ayyıldız. Makam, who drew attention to the fact that the teams will carry out their work by passing through the Nilüfer Stream from beginning to end, said, ''Illegal discharges on the Nilüfer Stream will be detected and every stage of the work will be carried out meticulously to eliminate the reasons causing mucilage. After the illegal discharges made to the Nilüfer Stream are detected, the necessary sanctions will be applied to the relevant companies by our Provincial Environment Directorate and these discharges will be prevented.''
