Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay examined the construction works of the 56th Maintenance Factory Directorate carried out by Konya Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of Heavy Maintenance Urban Transformation together with the press members.
Making statements to members of the press during the inspections carried out in Selçuklu Aşağı Pınarbaşı Neighborhood where the facility will be moved, Mayor Altay stated that one of the most important issues in our country is urban transformation and that they are carrying out very important urban transformation works in Konya.
Emphasizing that the works in the construction of the 56th Maintenance Factory Directorate are being carried out meticulously, Mayor Altay said, “Actually, when you ask the Konya public, we have carried out works on three areas where urban transformation work needs to be done. The first is the Old Industry and Karatay Industry. Hopefully, we will make our next visit there and you will witness how important a job we have done for our city as TOKİ, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Konya Metropolitan Municipality. The second is the ammunition depot area on the Sille road. Again, within the scope of the protocol we made with the Ministry of National Defense (MSB), the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, we built one of the most modern ammunition depots in Turkey in Çumra for 4 billion 800 million liras with the current cost and delivered it to our Ministry of National Defense. It has also become one of Turkey’s exemplary facilities. The third is the area we know as Heavy Maintenance in Havzan.”
“A NATIONAL ISSUE”
Providing information about the 56th Maintenance Factory Area, known as Heavy Maintenance, President Altay made the following assessments:
“We are currently at the construction site of the construction we have carried out regarding the relocation of the 56th Heavy Maintenance Factory Area, known as Heavy Maintenance, located between Meram Yeniyol, Meram Eskiyol, Şehir Caddesi and Ateşbaz Caddesi. This is a total area of 600 thousand square meters including reserve areas. The facilities have been realized in line with the request of the Ministry of National Defense in a 60 thousand square meter closed area. We are building a modern facility here where a tank can be maintained from beginning to end and even new areas can be manufactured. It will be a facility where all mechanical and electrical works, landscaping works are carried out on a turnkey basis in a 60 thousand square meter closed area and all social facilities of our soldiers are met. The investment cost of this place is 3 billion 800 million liras according to the current cost. Therefore, we are spending 9 billion for the ammunition depot and Heavy Maintenance. The work we do is at NATO standards. No expense was spared. Because we see this as a national issue. We will have delivered one of the most modern facilities in Turkey to our Ministry of National Defense. We hope that the Heavy Maintenance area will be moved to this region by the end of the year. As you can see, we are almost done with the construction work. We are carrying out the landscaping work. We expect the transfer to the Ministry of National Defense around September and the move to be completed. After the move, 640 thousand square meters of land in that area will be transferred to our Metropolitan Municipality. There, we will have a new social facility area of approximately 500 thousand square meters, including green areas, school areas, and health facility areas. The remaining 140 thousand square meters will be used as housing in urban transformation for the financing of the project.”
“WE ARE MAKING KONYA’S DREAMS REAL ONE BY ONE”
President Altay, drawing attention to the fact that they produce solutions to the vital issues of the city, said, “As we have stated, we have joined hands and are realizing Konya’s dreams one by one. Thus, we will be turning an area that has remained in the center, which is both a great concentration in terms of military and serves our country as a facility, into such a modern area; most importantly, right next to the Organized Industrial Zone, opposite ASELSAN Konya, and turning it into a new production base, and transferring it to the Ministry of National Defense.”
“WE ARE TRYING TO DO IMPORTANT WORKS IN KONYA’S HISTORY WITH OUR WORKS”
Emphasizing that they always strive to do the best for Konya, Mayor Altay said, “Only our 2 projects cost our Metropolitan Municipality over 9 billion liras as urban transformation. I would like to convey this message to our friends whose advertising budget is more than the urban transformation budget. The important thing is to make our cities resilient, to increase the relationship between institutions and to be able to present the works for the benefit of the city in this way. A person will remain with what he does, and we are trying to do important works in the history of Konya with our works. I would like to thank everyone, especially our contractor company working on the construction site, to our workers, I hope to complete it without any accidents or trouble. I would like to thank my colleagues, there is a very intense labor and effort here. Together, we are completing this process with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense. I hope it will be beneficial to our city. Hopefully, this facility, which will make our Ministry of National Defense and our soldiers stronger in the future of our country, will be an important turning point for our country.”
