THE CONTRIBUTION OF BOTTOM MUDDLE CLEANING WAS SEEN

The “2nd Flamingo Observation Festival” organized by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of “Doğa Kocaeli” events brought together nature enthusiasts in İzmit Bay Wetland. Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Berna Abiş, DKMP officials and over 150 nature lovers came together at this special event to watch the grace of flamingos and discover the unique view offered by nature. During the observations made within the scope of the event held within the scope of February 2 World Wetlands Day, 39 different bird species and 170 records were recorded, while 430 flamingos wintering in İzmit Wetland were observed by the participants. The population, which increased compared to the previous year, once again revealed that the bottom mud cleaning carried out in the Eastern Basin of İzmit Bay contributed to the development of biodiversity in the region and the success of nature protection efforts.

ART, NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT THEMED ACTIVITIES

Many events were organized throughout the festival to protect nature and raise awareness. While the “Birds of Kocaeli Exhibition”, “Water Bird Count” and “Coastal Cleaning” contributed to the protection of nature, the “Red Crane Canvas Work” and the “Bird Feeder” made added a meaning to art that was intertwined with nature.

PELICAN AND HAWK RELEASED INTO NATURE

One of the most unforgettable moments of the event was the release of a pelican and a hawk, whose treatment was completed at the Ormanya Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, back into their natural habitat. The pelican, which was released with the accompaniment of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Berna Abiş, was observed to have started feeding and to be in good health. In addition, the Komek Sepeti and DKMP stands attracted great interest from visitors who wanted to learn about nature-friendly projects.
