Bus Flies Off Bridge in Guatemala, 54 Dead

In a tragic accident in Guatemala City, a bus fell off a bridge and into a gorge, killing at least 54 people. Authorities said the accident occurred on the Belize Bridge in the sixth district of the Guatemala capital.

The debris is spread over a wide area, both on land and in the water. Photographs shared by the Guatemala military show bodies falling to the edge of the valley. In the immediate aftermath, the country’s volunteer firefighters and other rescue teams worked under cover of darkness to pull the injured and dead from the rubble.

Rescue Efforts and Challenges

Working under difficult conditions, rescue teams used headlamps and flashlights to reach people under the rubble. According to videos shared from the scene, these intensive rescue efforts continued throughout the night.
