Bornova Muscat Grape Comes to Life Again

Bornova Municipality has implemented a project to revive the Bornova Misket grape. The first saplings have reached the soil in the Bornova Misket Vineyard established on an 11-acre area in Kayadibi Neighborhood. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to spread Misket Grape all around Bornova by collaborating with five producers in Çamiçi, Beşyol, Kayadibi and Yaka neighborhoods.

At the ceremony held in Kayadibi Neighborhood, contracts were signed with local producers within the framework of the cooperation protocol previously signed between Bornova Municipality and Manisa Viticulture Research Institute. Within the scope of the project, producers will be provided with seedlings, fertilizer, wire training system, irrigation system and training support. In addition, producers will be given a purchase guarantee for seven years.

The project aims to increase Bornova’s agricultural potential by prioritizing women producers. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, emphasizing the importance of the project, stated that Muscat Grape will be brought together with local resources. Akay Ünal from Manisa Viticulture Research Institute emphasized the importance of protecting Bornova Muscat Grape. Kayadibi Neighborhood Headman Azime Işık stated that producers will become stronger thanks to the project.
