
Bornova Municipality will organize a large Seed Exchange Festival at the Bornova Central Covered Marketplace on Saturday, February 15, with the aim of protecting local seeds and promoting sustainable agriculture.
The opening of the Bornova Municipality Ecological Local Seed Center will also be held within the scope of the festival.
The festival will feature 11 metropolitan municipalities, 14 district municipalities and many local seed associations, including the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. In addition to free seed sharing, a full day of seed ball and germination workshops, agricultural panels and musical concerts awaits Bornova residents.
At the festival, Bornova Municipality Agricultural Services Directorate will distribute summer and winter vegetable seeds as well as various flower seeds free of charge.
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that they are determined as a municipality to protect local seeds and said, “Local seeds are not only a legacy of the past, but also the assurance of our future. We established the Ecological Local Seed Center to encourage healthy production that is resistant to the climate crisis and free from chemicals. This center will support our farmers and producers and will serve as a bridge to transfer local seeds to future generations,” and invited all Bornova residents to this great festival.
