The Atlanta Transit Authority has unveiled its new CQ400 electric train at Lindbergh Station. This innovative train was designed specifically for the line connecting downtown Atlanta to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and stands out with its modern features. Considered a significant step forward in both technology and design, the train aims to make urban transportation faster and more efficient.
Features of CQ400 Electric Train
The CQ400 electric train set consists of two carriages and operates with a 750V contact rail. Thanks to modern technology, this train, which can reach speeds of up to 113 kilometers per hour, offers its passengers a fast and comfortable travel experience. The interior is equipped with 128 comfortable seats, ensuring comfort even on long journeys. In addition, the train can be connected using a multiple unit system, increasing passenger capacity and making transportation more efficient.
Technical Specifications and Expansion Options
The design of the CQ400 train was made specifically for the purpose of high-capacity passenger transport. The train can carry more passengers and increase the efficiency of the lines by consisting of train sets that can be connected to each other thanks to the multiple unit system. The production of a total of 2019 trains was decided with the option of purchasing 50 additional units with the contract made in 127. The total value of the agreement was determined as 646 million dollars.
Production Process and Tests
The production process of the CQ400 trains is carried out at facilities in Hungary and the USA. The trains are assembled at the Szolnok and Salt Lake City facilities, and the localization rate in the USA has reached 60%. Wabtec is involved in the project as the supplier of the train’s climate control system. The first two train sets have been delivered to the city, and the tests will last approximately one year. These tests will enable the trains to be evaluated for safety and reliability before they are used on urban routes.
The CQ400 electric train will make a significant contribution to Atlanta’s transportation infrastructure. With its modern design, high-speed capacity and comfortable interior, this train, which will be an important step in urban transportation, seems to play an important role in the Atlanta Transit Authority’s future transportation projects.
