Alstom has unveiled the first MF19 train to be used on the Paris Metro. After successfully passing all tests, the train is currently undergoing trial runs ahead of its official launch. Having successfully completed its first tests at a dedicated facility in Crespin, the MF19 has been sent to Paris Metro Line 10, where it is scheduled to enter service in the autumn of this year.
Agreement between Alstom and Île-de-France Transport Authority
The agreement signed between Alstom and the Île-de-France transport authority (IdFM) in 2019 foresees the delivery of 147 train sets in total. The trains will be available in four- or five-car configurations and can be equipped with a driver’s cab. Some trains will operate with the GoA4 autonomous operating system, which provides fully automatic control.
Different Seat Capacities According to Lines
The seat capacities of the MF19 trains will vary depending on the density of the line on which the trains will operate. The 146-seat version will operate on lines 3, 10 and 12 of the Paris Metro, while the 122-seat version will operate on lines 7, 8 and 13. Total passenger capacity will be 586 and 592 people, respectively.
Energy Efficiency and Modern Technologies
Alstom says the new trains will consume 25% less energy than current models. This improvement will be achieved through the use of regenerative braking technology and LED lighting. The new MF19 trains will both increase passenger comfort and improve the environmental sustainability of the region.
Will Replace Old MF77 Trains
The old MF1978 trains, which have been in service since 77, had to be replaced due to ageing. The new MF19 models will not only increase passenger comfort but also provide more environmentally sustainable transport.
This innovation in the Paris Metro will both improve the experience of passengers and provide the city with a more environmentally friendly transportation system.
