The Eastern Cargo Terminal at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site built by Rosatom, the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation, accepted the 100th cargo ship since the port was put into operation. The ship was welcomed at the terminal berth by Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. General Manager Sergey Butckikh and Port Director Okan Bozkurt.
Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. General Manager Sergey Butckikh, in his statement on the subject, said, “While commissioning work continues in the first power unit, construction and assembly work continues in other units. At the same time, equipment and material shipments for the NPP continue. The Eastern Cargo Terminal is one of the most important logistics infrastructures of the project, as it ensures uninterrupted cargo delivery by sea. Ships from different countries come to us and we have received our 100th cargo ship. This ship delivered switchgear components and turbine components for different power units to the site.”
Port Director Okan Bozkurt also said: “The Eastern Cargo Terminal is not only used by ships carrying cargo for the Akkuyu NPP. The terminal’s berth is optimally designed to receive large-sized cargo, construction materials and equipment, including reactor components. The terminal will operate throughout the life cycle of the nuclear power plant. During anchoring operations while entering and exiting Akkuyu Bay, cargo ships are provided with mandatory pilotage service and tugboat escort.”
