Ministry of Trade Customs Enforcement Teams revealed a remarkable smuggling attempt during the checks they conducted at the Sarp Customs Gate. A suspicious density was detected during a routine x-ray scan of a vehicle that was entering Turkey.
655 Thousand Lira Worth of Smuggled Turtle
In a detailed examination of the vehicle, 910 water turtles that were intended to be smuggled into Turkey illegally were found. Authorities announced that the total market value of the turtles was 655 thousand lira.
Investigation Started
An investigation has been launched by the Hopa Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. Customs officials stated that inspections will be tightened against such smuggling attempts that threaten nature and biodiversity.
