Free HPV Vaccine for Women in Balıkesir

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, in collaboration with Balıkesir University and Balıkesir City Council, launched the HPV Vaccine Application for women.

A cooperation protocol was signed between Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, Balıkesir University and Balıkesir City Council to minimize cancer cases caused by HPV virus. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın, Balıkesir University Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu and Balıkesir City Council President Sevinç Baykan Özden, as well as BBB Health and Social Services Department Head Serpil Kara and relevant unit managers attended the signing ceremony held in the BBB Service building.

Stating that they will provide this service to women who do not have access to the vaccine due to socio-economic reasons, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın said, “In order to minimize the cancer cases caused by the HPV virus, which increases every year, and to protect women, we will provide the HPV vaccine free of charge to citizens who receive social assistance from our municipality with the understanding of social municipality.”

Akın, who stated that they signed an important project for the protection of public health as a municipality, said, “I would like to thank Balıkesir University Rector very much. Universities are our greatest wealth. Our university does things that make a difference in Turkey. We wanted to strengthen our cooperation with the protocol we made. HPV vaccine is a great necessity to protect women against cancer cases. We protect our people thanks to this vaccine. A vaccine saves a woman's life. We are at the service of women and girls who want to be vaccinated with HPV throughout Balıkesir.”

Stating that they have provided an important cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality to protect the public health in the city, Balıkesir University Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Oğurlu said, “We are proud of this. We are aware that the reason for the existence of universities is not just to grant diplomas. Universities should maintain contact with the society and serve the society. They should guide the society in every field they can. By evaluating the offer from our municipality, we will provide support for a medical profession that will prevent thousands of people from getting cancer in Balıkesir through this vaccine.”
