Etihad Rail to Accelerate High-Speed Rail Transport in UAE

Etihad Rail has announced the launch of high-speed electric train services that will reduce travel times between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to just 30 minutes. The innovative project includes trains that can travel at speeds of 350 km/h and is a significant step in transforming transport infrastructure in the region.

Six Stations, Major Stops and Connections

The project covers six key stations in Abu Dhabi, including Reem Island and Saadiyat, and stops in Dubai include Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Jaddaf. This high-speed train will not only reduce travel times between the two cities, but will also reinforce connectivity and sustainability goals in the region.

Regional Connectivity: Connectivity to the GCC Railway Network

Alongside the Dubai-Abu Dhabi line, Etihad Rail is building a regular high-speed rail line connecting the seven emirates. This line will extend to Oman and connect to the wider GCC Rail network, improving regional access and increasing economic integration. Travelling at 200 km/h, the train will carry 400 passengers per journey.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

Authorities expect the high-speed rail to contribute more than AED50 billion ($145 billion) to the UAE’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over 39,5 years. These projects will not only boost the economy but also support green transportation initiatives.

High-speed and regular rail projects will upgrade the UAE’s transport infrastructure, providing improved regional accessibility and reducing its carbon footprint. With these projects, Etihad Rail aims to revolutionise travel across the region.

Future Goals and Construction Timelines

Although construction timelines remain uncertain, these Etihad Rail projects have the potential to pioneer revolutionary changes in the region’s transportation infrastructure.
