Konya Metropolitan Municipality continued to contribute to the sustainable environment in the field of environmentally friendly energy production and waste management in 2024.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay emphasized that they strive to be a pioneer and leader in combating global problems such as climate change and drought with the environmentally friendly investments they bring to Konya.
THE AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY PRODUCED SO FAR IS 865 MILLION 285 THOUSAND KIOWATTS/HOUR
Noting that the facilities they have implemented to reduce the effects of climate change and create a sustainable environment are a great gain for Konya, Mayor Altay said, “In 2024, 80,4 million kilowatts of electrical energy was produced from the methane gas generated in the Konya Solid Waste Regular Storage Area and the Aslım, Ereğli, Cihanbeyli and Akşehir Solid Waste Regular Storage Facilities and from the sludge obtained by the processing of wastewater by our KOSKİ General Directorate.”
Emphasizing that the total amount of electricity produced in solid waste facilities has reached 753 million 855 thousand kilowatt/hours since their establishment, President Altay stated that the amount of electricity obtained from wastewater sludge in Konya Wastewater Treatment Facility affiliated to KOSKİ General Directorate has been 111 million 430 thousand kilowatt/hours since its establishment.
Noting that the facilities contribute to energy production with an environmentally friendly approach and play an important role in reducing environmental pollution, President Altay noted that the total amount of electricity produced from solid waste and KOSKİ facilities to date is 865 million 285 thousand kilowatt/hour.
SOLID WASTE TRANSFER CENTERS WERE ESTABLISHED IN DISTRICTS
Stating that they have taken important steps in solid waste management in recent years, President Altay continued his speech as follows:
“In addition to our solid waste transfer centers serving in Selçuklu, Altınekin, Kulu, Cihanbeyli and Sarayönü, we have also added new solid waste transfer centers to Çeltik and Yunak districts. In addition, our Thermal Disposal Facility, designed with a modern and environmentally sensitive approach, ensures that waste is disposed of without harming the environment. We will continue to prepare Konya for the future and contribute to a cleaner future with our environmentally friendly investments and sustainable energy projects.”
MORE THAN 3 THOUSAND TONS OF WASTE ARE STERILIZED ANNUALLY IN THE MEDICAL WASTE STERILIZATION FACILITY
President Altay also stated that there is a Medical Waste Sterilization Facility in the Konya Solid Waste Regular Storage and Energy Production Facility area and that they sterilize medical waste there, and said, “We collect medical waste with 4 licensed vehicles and sterilize with 2 sterilizers. A total of 10 tons of medical waste was sterilized and disposed of in 2024 in our medical waste disposal facility with a daily capacity of 3.266 tons.”
In addition to these facilities, Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to produce electricity with wind and solar energy systems.
