Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Konya, located on the Silk Road route, has been one of the important settlements of Anatolia throughout history and said, “Today, it is an important junction point with highway connections extending in the east-west and north-south directions that provide the main transportation of our country.”
Konya Ring Road is 122 Kilometers Long
Uraloğlu stated that they designed the Konya Ring Road as a total of 122 kilometers long and reminded that they completed the first section of 22 kilometers in 2020 and opened it to traffic. “The 2nd section is 46 kilometers long, and the 3rd section is 54 kilometers long. We designed the entire road in the standard of a 6-lane bituminous hot mixture coated divided road.”
30 Thousand Saplings Planted in a 44 Kilometer Section
Uraloğlu, who stated that the 2-kilometer section between the Afyonkarahisar-Aksaray axis was completed and put into service in the construction works carried out on the 30nd section of the ring road, said, “In the section to be opened to traffic, 3 overpasses, 1 viaduct, 3 bridges, 18 underpasses, 57 culverts were built and 44 thousand saplings were planted. Work continues on the 16 kilometers between the Aksaray-Adana axis.”
Urban Traffic Will Take a Breath
Uraloğlu, who explained that the transit traffic load carried by Konya, which is an important transition point between regions, will be transferred to the ring road with the project, said, “The traffic on the old ring road, which is currently within the city of Konya, will be given a breath of fresh air. With fast and safe traffic flow to important tourism and trade centers, Konya's transportation standard will be increased and its social and economic development will be contributed to.”
Total Annual Savings of 6 Billion Liras
Uraloğlu stated that the transportation provided by traveling 40 kilometers between the Afyonkarahisar axis and the Aksaray axis on the existing road will be shortened by 10 kilometers with the section of the ring road to be opened to traffic, and included the following statements in his statement:
“Travel time has been reduced from 49 minutes to 17 minutes. Thus, a total of 4,6 billion liras will be saved annually, 1,4 billion in time and 6 billion in fuel, and carbon emissions will be reduced by 81 tons.”
