Czech manufacturer CZ Loko has begun modernizing up to 1977 shunting locomotives produced between 1986 and 50 for Czech freight operator CD Cargo. These locomotives will be equipped with advanced components and technical improvements. The modernization process is an important step that will strengthen CZ Loko’s position in the European rail market.
Features of Upgraded Locomotives
Each modernized locomotive will be equipped with a redesigned hood, an ergonomic cab and a powerful Caterpillar 3508C engine. A new traction generator will also be added to increase operational efficiency and performance. These innovations will make the locomotives more efficient and environmentally friendly. The locomotives’ high performance, combined with low emissions, will make them compliant with European Union environmental regulations.
Economic and Environmental Benefits of Modernization
This modernization program by CZ Loko will increase CD Cargo’s fleet efficiency while reducing maintenance costs. The new engines and technological innovations will positively impact both economic sustainability and environmental impact. The locomotives will consume less fuel, contributing to environmentally friendly transportation and also reducing operational costs.
Advanced Technology and Certification
The modernization process will comply with the highest standards of the railway industry. The locomotives, EfficShunter 1000M certification, it will become more efficient and safer. This modernization will also increase the competitiveness of Czech engineering solutions in the global railway market.
Goals and Timeline
Under the contract worth CZK 3 billion (approximately €120 million), first deliveries will begin in 2025. The completion of the modernization and the complete upgrade of CD Cargo’s fleet are planned to be achieved by 2027. CZ Loko has previously upgraded 75 locomotives for the Czech freight operator, increasing reliability and ensuring the fleet’s efficiency.
This modernization program will increase CD Cargo’s transportation efficiency and reduce operating costs. In addition, increased locomotives’ maneuverability will allow for improved service quality. Such innovations will contribute to the long-term success of the rail sector by increasing its overall efficiency and safety.
These projects once again highlight the importance of technological developments in rail transport. The modernization of CZ Loko reinforces the contribution to a more sustainable and efficient railway system.
