Bursa's Water Problem Will Be Solved by 2060

Work is progressing at full speed on the ‘Bursa Çınarcık Drinking Water Project’, which will prevent Bursa from experiencing drought until 2060. Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey said, “When the Çınarcık Dam becomes operational at full capacity, we will have added 300 thousand cubic meters of purified drinking water reserve to Bursa’s current daily drinking water capacity.”

While the effects of global warming such as increasing temperatures, decreasing winter precipitation, loss of surface water, and increasing frequency of droughts directly threaten the existence of water resources, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is taking important steps in combating climate change and drought. Continuing its works that will leave a mark on the future of the city in terms of access to healthy and uninterrupted drinking water, the Metropolitan Municipality continues its works without a break on the 'Bursa Çınarcık Drinking Water Project', which will meet Bursa's water needs until 2060 together with the Doğancı and Nilüfer dams. The teams working in the field with great devotion are working day and night to bring the giant project to life as soon as possible.

“Our work will continue at an increasing pace”

Drawing attention to the fact that Bursa’s annual population growth is above the Turkish average, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey also reminded that Bursa is one of the cities that receives intense migration. Stating that all these factors further increase the need for access to healthy drinking water, Mayor Bozbey said, “Works on the Çınarcık Dam, which will meet Bursa’s drinking water needs together with the Doğancı and Nilüfer dams until 2060, continue uninterruptedly. We have made significant progress in the transmission line works that will transport water to the city. When the works we have carried out through BUSKİ are completed, we will have completed the manufacturing of a 68-kilometer drinking water line and the construction of 21 drinking water tanks with a volume of 3 thousand cubic meters. When the Çınarcık Dam is put into operation at full capacity, we will have added 300 thousand cubic meters of purified drinking water reserve to Bursa’s current daily drinking water capacity. The Çınarcık Dam is one of the important turning points in Bursa’s drinking water history. “Our work to provide healthy and uninterrupted drinking water will continue at an increasing pace,” he said.
