Concept of NEET – Young People Neither in Education nor Employment (NEET) Izmir Research Report Study
Emphasizing the importance of social transformation, he drew attention to the concept of Neither Education Nor Employment (NEET), which has been on the agenda recently, and made a detailed presentation on this subject. EGİAD General Secretary Dr. WHAT. Murat Çelik said, “This concept refers to young people who are neither in education nor in employment. This is one of the most important problems of our country right now. While we are proud of our country's young population, on the other hand, we cannot properly benefit from this young human resource. EGİAD The report we prepared in cooperation with the City of Izmir Association to draw attention to the concept of NEET made a big impact. With this report we prepared as part of our Think Tank studies during this period, we aim to pave the way for NEET youth. This is one of the most important problems of our country right now. NEET refers to young people remaining out of employment. It can also be seen as the failure to use the country's productive labor potential and to contribute to economic development. It also results in decreased efficiency in the economy and increased dependency on social assistance. It also causes NEET youth to experience problems such as unemployment and lack of education, an increase in their tendency towards radicalism or crime, and social instability. The average for NEET in the OECD countries is 12,7%, while the average for Turkey is 27,9%. There are striking data that 10 out of every 7 NEET youth are women. Turkey ranks second on the list after South Africa. The EU country with the highest rate is Romania with 17,5%. The lowest is the Netherlands with 2,8%. "The country with the largest gender gap in education and employment is Turkey. We aim to contribute to the solution of the problem at the national level," he said.
Let's Be Cautious for 2025
EGİAD The meeting, chaired by Advisory Board Chairman and İZTO Board Chairman Mahmut Özgener, also included evaluations on the agenda. In the meeting where views on the economic agenda were shared, it was stated that 2025 would be a difficult year economically, cash management would be very important, the exchange rate suppression process would continue, and austerity policies had to continue this year as well.
