Royal Railway Cambodia (RRC) is actively working to support Cambodia’s economic growth and modernize its transportation infrastructure. The company plays a key role in the country’s transportation sector by improving its logistics network and expanding rail connections.
New Additions and Modernization
- Locomotive Innovations: Two YDM-7 locomotives received from India arrived at the port of Sihanoukville on November 2024, 4. These new locomotives will be used in both freight and passenger transport and will increase efficiency between routes.
- Wagon Addition: On December 1, 2024, 60 flat wagons purchased from China joined the fleet to carry containers, construction materials and heavy machinery. Another 35 wagons will be delivered by the end of December, followed by 2025 more wagons in January 45.
- Platform Strengthening: In July 2024, 25 platforms procured from Malaysia were included in the system to improve the infrastructure.
- Wheelset and Bogie Increase: In May, 200 wheelsets and 50 bogies were added to improve operational performance.
Expanding Network with New Trains
- Diesel Train Introduction: Five KiHa 2024 diesel trains purchased from Japan’s JR Hokkaido in November 183 have strengthened transportation services by connecting Phnom Penh with key cities such as Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kep. These trains will serve both passenger and freight transport.

Royal Railway Cambodia aims to increase regional logistics competitiveness and stimulate economic growth by modernizing its railway network. The improved infrastructure creates new opportunities for cargo transportation, while also providing more reliable and efficient passenger transportation. These efforts contribute to Cambodia’s economic development by strengthening its international trade and logistics capacity.
