Erdogan's Strong Message to Israel and CHP's Request for a Closed Session

Erdogan's Harsh Message to Israel

Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made important assessments in his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly regarding the new legislative year that began on October 1. Drawing attention particularly to the conflicts between Israel and Gaza and the expansion of this war to Lebanon, Erdoğan made the following statements:

“The Israeli government, acting with the delirium of the promised land, will set its sights on our homeland after Palestine and Lebanon. Israeli aggression also includes Turkey. We will stand against this state terror with every means at our disposal for our homeland, our nation and our independence.”

CHP Requests Closed Session

Following these striking statements by Erdoğan, the Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir visited the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş and emphasized the seriousness of the issue. Emir requested that the TBMM hold a closed session and inform the deputies.

While answering questions on this issue on a television program, TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş announced that, in line with the request from Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler will be present to brief the TBMM General Assembly on Tuesday, October 8.

Closed Session Procedure

Kurtulmuş stated that the meetings could be held in closed session in line with the demands of the parties. If a closed session is decided, no listeners or journalists will be allowed into the General Assembly Hall. In addition, the side rooms in the General Assembly Hall will remain closed until the session is completed.

The minutes and summaries taken in the closed session can only be published after 10 years. After the information process, the closed session will end and the General Assembly will continue to discuss other issues on the agenda in open session.
