While the rails were being laid on the Alikahya Tram Line, Mayor Büyükakın saw the latest status of the project, which continues the great transformation in transportation.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality is rapidly implementing the Alikahya Stadium Tram Line Project in order to ease intra-city transportation and facilitate access to Kocaeli Stadium. The infrastructure work has been completed and the rail laying process has begun in the project. This new tram line, which is 3,8 kilometers in length, will ease the traffic burden in the region and make intra-city transportation more comfortable and faster by expanding the use of public transportation. Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, who emphasized the importance of the project for the city, stated that public transportation is critical for the development of the city. Mayor Büyükakın said, ''We continue to develop the rail system network in our city by producing work, not making excuses. With this project, the tram will be integrated with intra-city transportation, transportation will be easier, and traffic density will decrease. Working in areas with heavy traffic is like open-heart surgery.''
LATEST STATUS ON THE STUDIES
In the project, rail laying and welding operations continue on Binnur Street. While rainwater channels are being built on Sultan Murat Street, 900 tons of line rail has been manufactured in the factory and shipped to the construction site. The construction of the two transformer buildings that will feed the tram line is also nearing completion. In addition, the bored piles have been completed and the foundation concrete has begun to be poured in the new bridge construction that was built in place of the old bridge over Akarca Creek. Infrastructure work continues on Bağımsızlık and Fatma Seher Hanım Streets to renew rainwater, drinking water, wastewater, electricity and telecom lines.
6 NEW STATION
The new tram line will start from the bus station depot area and end at Bağımsızlık Avenue. It will ease urban transportation with 6 new stations. These stations will cover central points such as Fener Street, Sakıp Sabancı Street and Yunus Emre Street. This route, which will meet the public transportation needs in the region, will both facilitate transportation to the stadium and expand the general public transportation opportunities of the Alikahya region.
“CITIES GROW AND DEVELOP WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION”
During his examinations of the project area, Mayor Büyükakın drew attention to the difficulties encountered while constructing the tram line. Mayor Büyükakın said, “Working in areas with heavy traffic is like open heart surgery,” and expressed that infrastructure and superstructure work is continuing meticulously. Mayor Büyükakın said, “Such projects are laborious, but when completed, they add great value to the city,” and stated that the people of Kocaeli will have a more comfortable, faster and safer transportation network.
THE GOAL IS TO BE OPENED IN 2024
“We plan to open the first stage in 2024,” said Mayor Büyükakın, adding that the tram line will make a great contribution to both the stadium and the Alikahya region. It was also stated that the cost of the 3,8-kilometer line will reach 1,5 billion liras. Mayor Büyükakın also stated that the line will be used intensively by the local people. The entire project is aimed to be completed in 2025.
BIG INVESTMENTS, BIG GAINS
Mayor Büyükakın emphasized that this tram line is not just a transportation project, but an investment that will add value to the city. Saying, “Cities grow and develop with public transportation,” Mayor Büyükakın emphasized that the Alikahya Stadium Tram Line will alleviate the traffic congestion in the region and provide an environmentally friendly and safe transportation opportunity when completed. Mayor Büyükakın concluded his statements as follows: “The construction process tires the city while the tram line is being built, but when it is completed, the city gains a great gain. When our line becomes operational, using this line will be an incredibly enjoyable experience for the people of the region. We continue to develop the rail system network in our city by producing jobs, not making excuses.”
