160 Children Vaccined Against Polio in Gaza in Two Days

Around 160 children in Gaza have been able to receive polio vaccinations in the past two days, local health officials announced on Facebook.

The UN aims to vaccinate 640 children in Gaza against the disease. The first case of polio virus was found in a 10-month-old baby. It was the first case of polio in Gaza in 25 years.

The vaccination programme began on Sunday after the World Health Organisation (WHO) agreed with Israel to impose a temporary halt to fighting and bombardment in Gaza.

The polio virus can cause permanent paralysis and is therefore also known as polio.
