Last night, an armed attack was carried out against the Emergency Department of Bahçelievler State Hospital in Istanbul. Five people were injured in this attack and the treatment of the injured continues in the same hospital. Hekimsen made important statements to prevent such incidents, emphasizing that those carrying licensed and unlicensed weapons should be inspected.

Heavy Sanctions Should Be Imposed on Those Carrying Unlicensed Weapons

In a written statement made by Hekimsen, it was stated that the Ministry of Interior should apply harsher penalties against individuals using unlicensed weapons. Hekimsen officials shared the following statements on the social media platform X:

  • “We wish a speedy recovery to the five people injured in the attack.”
  • "Hospitals are areas that enjoy international immunity status even in times of war. The reasons for such armed attacks should be thoroughly investigated and questioned by the Ministry of Interior."
  • “More care and attention should be paid in the evaluation of individuals who want to obtain a gun license.”
  • “In order to prevent attacks on emergency response units from recurring, it is essential that the Ministry of Interior regularly fulfills its security duties.”
  • “Heavy sanctions should also be imposed on individuals who use unlicensed weapons.”

Hekimsen underlined that the necessary legal regulations and preventive measures should be taken urgently so that doctors and healthcare professionals can safely perform their duties and do not feel anxious while providing treatment to their patients. Raising public awareness and tightening security measures are of great importance to prevent such attacks from happening again.
