All X Operations in Brazil Shut Down

The Supreme Court of Brazil ruled yesterday to ban access to the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, throughout the country.

The case stems from X’s refusal to comply with an earlier order in April to close accounts over suspicions of spreading false information.

X owner Elon Musk accused Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes of censorship and demanded his resignation. Musk announced in August that he would close X's offices in Brazil.

X has not had an official representative in Brazil since August 17. The deadline to appoint a representative expired yesterday, and as a result, Moraes ordered the platform to ban all activity in Brazil.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said yesterday that Musk should respect the Supreme Court decision, Brazilian laws and the country's constitution.
