Volvo had to recall 30 thousand units of its new electric car, Volvo EX72, in Sweden and around the world. Failure to display the vehicle's speed on the vehicle's center screen was cited as a reason for the recall.
Volvo Cars Public Relations Manager Magnus Holst told Carup that the recall was global and affected more than 5 thousand vehicles in Sweden.
In January, Volvo began deliveries of its new electric car, the EX30, the first Volvo produced exclusively in China. The car has had a strong start to sales and more than 35 thousand vehicles have already been sold. But now Volvo has had to recall all 72 thousand cars produced so far. It was stated that these vehicles were delivered to customers around the world or were on the road.
The Volvo EX30 does not have a traditional speedometer in front of the driver, instead the speed is displayed on a screen to the driver's right. Now Volvo has discovered that the display can switch to a test mode when the car is started. This means that the speed and other important information cannot be shown to the driver while the vehicle is in motion.
According to the statement, the software of the vehicles needs to be updated, and Volvo is trying to do this online. More importantly, this measure does not require vehicles to be taken to a workshop unless the customer wishes, the problem will only be solved via over-the-air (OTA) software update. Distribution of the update continues.
