Special Cleaning Move for Public Transportation Vehicles in Izmir

Intensive work has also been started on the cleaning of public transportation vehicles and stops. Buses, metro, trams and ships are meticulously cleaned every day and prepared for service again. During cleaning, attention is also paid to saving water.

In all these processes, TSE approved cleaning products that are not harmful to human health are used. Closed stops are also cleaned upon requests from citizens and headmen.

Berek: Every vehicle is cleaned after the mission

Zeki Berek, ESHOT General Directorate Building Facilities Department Garage Services Branch Manager, said that nearly 700 buses meet the people of Izmir every morning in immaculate condition and said, “We clean the interior and exterior of 700 vehicles that go on daily trips every day. Even though the pandemic has passed, we clean the areas that passengers touch every day to ensure hygiene inside the vehicles. We recycle and reuse 80-85 percent of the water we use, and we do not use mains water as much as possible. Every morning, the people of Izmir get into clean vehicles. We also demolish the stops. In addition to daily cleaning, we thoroughly clean and disinfect our vehicles, including the bottom and ceiling, every month. "This practice includes our buses that travel to surrounding settlements and villages," he said.

How are buses prepared for the trip?

Buses returning from trips enter the brush first. The front and rear windows and rims of the vehicle are washed with sparkling water. The interior of the vehicle is vacuumed, the dashboard is wiped with a slightly damp cloth, the windows and handles are wiped, outdated banners are removed and new ones, if any, are pasted on. Finally, daily cleaning is completed by mopping the floors. During the monthly periodic cleaning of the buses, the entire exterior surface of the vehicle is foamed with a foam spray machine while the vehicle is being brushed. The inside is vacuumed, the entire floor is foamed with a foam sprayer using degreaser, brushed and cleaned with a squeegee. The windows are foamed with glass plush using soap and cleaned with a glass squeegee. Handrails and areas with passenger contact are wiped with a disinfectant cloth. The ceiling is wiped with a damp cloth, air conditioner air outlets and filters are vacuumed. The seats are swept with a broom, and the stained ones are cleaned using degreaser and left to dry. The driver's seat and dashboard are wiped with a damp cloth and the floors are mopped to complete periodic cleaning. There are currently 681 buses in active use in the fleet of ESHOT General Directorate.

Ships are cleaned with 33 cleaning personnel

In İZDENİZ, cleaning services are provided at 33 cruise ships, 15 car ferries, Izmir Marina and 7 piers with a total of 9 cleaning personnel. Ships are cleaned by cleaning personnel as soon as they leave the voyage and are docked during the day.

Metro and trams start the day clean

The vehicles in Izmir Metro's fleet are taken to the cleaning line in the workshop area on a daily basis, cleaned and put into operation. Metro and tram vehicles arriving at the workshop area first pass through the automatic exterior washing unit and are subjected to chassis cleaning. The vehicles are then taken to the cleaning channel. The cleaning of the vehicles taken to the cleaning channel is carried out in detail in accordance with the Cleaning Activities Instruction. In addition, all chemicals used during cleaning are taken in accordance with human health and the Waste Management Procedure. Platforms are also cleaned frequently.
