Türkiye – Causes Serious Damage to Greek Islands Tourism

Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) stated that precautions should be taken against attempts to disable travel agencies in visa applications., "The Greek Izmir Consulate and the Greek visa intermediary institution stopped travel agencies in the Aegean region from providing visa application services on behalf of their customers, even though they were previously accredited, approximately three months ago. While the friendly relations that have been going on for years between the two neighboring countries in the Aegean region, specifically Greece, are developing at a high level in terms of tourism on the islands, this decision has caused serious damage to the tourism of both countries and continues to do so. In addition to the pressures our members are exposed to while providing these services in our country, injustices in the appointments of visa intermediary institutions are among the most frequently submitted complaints by our members. One of the most obvious examples of this situation is that the Greek Izmir Consulate and the Greek visa intermediary institution stopped travel agencies in the Aegean region from providing visa application services on behalf of their customers, even though they were previously accredited, about three months ago. "While the friendly relations that have been going on for years between the two neighboring countries in the Aegean region, specifically Greece, are developing at a high level in terms of tourism on the islands, this decision has caused and continues to cause serious damage to the tourism of both countries."

Reaction to the Statements of Visa Intermediary Institutions
The following statements were made in the statement: "The package tour services that our Turkish citizens receive from our members, especially during their travels abroad, are included in Article 1618 titled "Services of Travel Agencies" of the Travel Agencies Regulation issued based on the Law No. 5 on Travel Agencies and the Association of Travel Agencies. The services of travel agencies are as follows: ...They can provide information regarding the transactions that the tourists are subject to, such as foreign exchange, visa and customs, regarding issues related to tourism and required by the tourism movement, and can carry out visa procedures. Visa services are also provided to assist in the visa procedures that they are required to obtain when traveling to Schengen countries. . However, it has been seen that our travel agencies and their staff have been seriously discredited and a bad image has been painted in the eyes of consumers in some posts made by visa intermediary institutions on their social media accounts recently.”
As TÜRSAB, We Will Take All Precautions
“Travel agencies offer visa services based on their rights and authorities arising from Law No. 1618, and reminds that application centers must avoid such statements that will create the impression on the consumer that our members, who act in accordance with the travel agency legislation, professional principles and legislative provisions, provide these services without authorization; It is a legal obligation to act together with travel agencies in terms of the development of the country's tourism and the solution of the problems experienced by our citizens in their international travels, and that the necessary precautions must be taken against attempts to disable travel agencies in visa applications, otherwise, as TÜRSAB, we will take all necessary measures against the illegalities. We respectfully present it to your information.”
