
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality; Its membership application to the United Nations Global Compact (UN Global Compact) was accepted in order to continue its responsibilities regarding the environment, anti-corruption, human rights and labor standards within the framework of universal principles.
Thus, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality became the only metropolitan municipality from Turkey to become a member of the world's largest sustainability platform, which has 167 thousand 24 members from 584 countries.

The Metropolitan Municipality's membership application to the United Nations Global Compact (UN Global Compact), which aims to continue its responsibilities regarding the environment, anti-corruption, human rights and labor standards within the framework of universal principles, has been accepted.
10 GLOBAL PRINCIPLES
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the only metropolitan municipality from Turkey that is a member of the formation, has committed to comply with the 4 principles determined under the 10 main headings of human rights, labor standards, environment and anti-corruption regarding the development goals of the United Nations.
This application of the Metropolitan Municipality, which signed the commitment letter on September 19, 2023, was accepted.
The 10 principles that the Metropolitan Municipality has committed to implement are as follows:
-The business world should support and respect declared human rights,
-The business world should not be complicit in human rights violations,
-The business world should support employees' freedom of unionization and collective bargaining,
-The practice of forced and compulsory labor should be stopped,
-All kinds of child labor should be stopped,
-Discrimination in recruitment and placement should be ended,
-The business world should support precautionary approaches to environmental problems,
-Support all kinds of activities and formations that will increase environmental responsibility,
-Support the development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies,
-The business world must fight against all forms of corruption, including bribery and extortion.
The organizations that have signed the agreement declare that they will voluntarily take these 10 principles into account when creating their practices and strategies, and that they will share their steps in this direction with the public in a transparent manner.
167 THOUSAND 24 MEMBERS FROM 584 COUNTRIES
The United Nations invited private sector and public organizations around the world to sign the Global Compact in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, which were announced to the public in 2000 with the signatures of the heads of state and prime ministers of 189 countries. The United Nations Global Compact, which was initiated under the leadership of the then United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan; Today, it is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative with 167 thousand 24 members from 584 countries.
The Global Compact focuses on the conduct of sustainability and corporate responsibility studies carried out by public and private sector organizations in the light of universal common standards; It aims to achieve global progress in human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption issues.
