The early vote count after the voting ended on Thursday in South Africa indicates that the ruling National Congress Party, the ANC, will experience a historic setback.
For the first time since the fall of apartheid, the ANC may lose its majority. Forecasts show the ANC will remain at 43 percent. In the 2019 elections, the ANC received 58 percent of the votes.
This means the ANC will no longer have its own power and will have to cooperate.
The main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, seems likely to get around 25 percent of the votes. Final results are expected to be announced on Sunday.
