Mayor Altay: “We Are Making a Historical Start”

The foundation of the 1st Stage of the Stadium-City Hospital Tram Line, which will be built by Konya Metropolitan Municipality, was laid with a ceremony.

Speaking at the groundbreaking program, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay stated that they witnessed a historical moment together and that they were happy to fulfill another promise and realize another dream of Konya.

“KONYA IS THE FIRST CITY OF ANATOLIA IN RAIL SYSTEM USE”

Stating that the only way found in the world to solve traffic is to increase public transportation vehicles, Mayor Altay said, “Konya is the first city in Anatolia to use the rail system. It is a city that managed to use a rail system in the 1980s and has since built a 27-kilometer-long rail system starting from Selçuk University and extending to the courthouse. "Afterwards, we experienced a new era in the rail system with the high-speed train, and today we all experience that comfort together," he said.

“WITH THE NEW LINE, WE WILL ENABLE PEOPLE TO REACH THE INDUSTRIAL ZONES WITH THE RAIL SYSTEM”

Reminding that they shared Konya's new vision with the public together with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure before the March 31 elections, Mayor Altay continued as follows:

“We promised to make efforts to make Konya the city that uses Anatolia's rail system network the most by adding 5 kilometers of line to our existing 27 kilometer line in these 105 years. Alhamdulillah, today together we will lay the foundation of the first stage of the Courthouse-City Hospital, City Hospital-Stadium line. With this stage, our line coming from Alaaddin to the Courthouse will first reach the City Hospital and reach the newly built industrial site, 11.2 kilometers away from the City Hospital. We, as the Metropolitan Municipality, will build this line. Aksaray road from New Industrial Site, Dr. We transferred the 10-kilometer second stage line from Sadık Ahmet Street, Halil Ürün Street and Yeni Stadium to our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with the approval of our President. When that line is completed, starting from Alaaddin to the Courthouse-City Hospital-Aslım Street and New Stadium; A new transportation axis will be formed that vertically cuts the Konya suburb, our current line and our future Barış Caddesi line. There was a huge concentration, especially in the industrial areas on Aslım Street. With the relocation of Eski Sanayi and Karatay Sanayi, one of Konya's historical transformations, at the end of this year, the density there will increase significantly. “With this line we have built, we will enable people to reach there by public transportation.”

COST OF THE NEW LINE IS 1.7 BILLION TL

Noting that they will realize the Courthouse-City Hospital part of the line, the foundation of which was laid, with the World Bank, and the City Hospital-New Industry stage with own resources, Mayor Altay stated that they will bring this rail system line to Konya with a total investment of 1.7 billion TL.

“WE ARE MAKING INTENSE EFFORTS TO BUILD KONYA'S FIRST METRO”

Stating that they continue to work uninterruptedly together with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Mayor Altay said, “We are making intense efforts to build Konya's first metro, especially with the Alaaddin-Konya Technical University line. Hopefully, we will start this as soon as possible and fulfill another promise. In addition, we are working on the new rail system that will provide the Meram-Karatay connection on Fetih Street-Ahmet Özcan Street-Çeçenistan Street and extend to the new YHT Station. Our ministry wrote articles about starting the project work of the Alaaddin-Necmettin Erbakan University line, and we are carrying out studies on this. In this process, work continues uninterruptedly on the 17,4 kilometer long KONYARAY Suburban Line, which we continue to build. In the first stage, it will start from Meram Station and reach Kayacık Logistics Center, and we are now continuing its work in the inner city part. "Hopefully, we are making an effort to put it into service in 2026," he said.

“WE WILL START THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 1 KILOMETER LINE WITHIN 28.1 YEAR”

Stating that the process regarding the 16,1 kilometer Fırat Street-Beyhekim Hospital-Barış Street line continues rapidly, Mayor Altay made the following evaluation:

“Thus, as the Metropolitan Municipality, we will have started the construction of the 1986 kilometer line within 27 year, out of the 1 kilometer rail system line that started in 28.1 and has been built to date. Thus, there will be a hundred percent increase. Additionally, when we add the suburban line under construction, we have almost doubled Konya's existing rail system. "When we add the 77 kilometers we will build together with our Ministry of Transport, we will add 4 floors to our existing line and provide Konya with a unique rail system."

THE CHEAPEST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE AMONG METROPOLITAN CITIES IS IN KONYA

Stating that, as Konya Metropolitan Municipality, they are working to increase the comfort of citizens in public transportation, Mayor Altay said that they brought 1.3 new buses to Konya at a cost of 180 billion liras, and that they will continue to renew their bus fleet by purchasing 50 new buses every year. In addition, reminding that Konya stands out as the city that offers the cheapest public transportation service among all metropolitan cities, that the student ticket is 4 lira and the civilian ticket is 8.5 lira, Mayor Altay noted that they offer public transportation service at almost 3/1 of their counterparts.

“WE ARE HAPPY TO START OUR NEW 5-YEAR SERVICE PERIOD WITH SUCH A GOOD WORK”

Underlining that they have made a historical start for Konya's rail system, Mayor Altay said, "Hopefully, in the next 5 years, by building a total of 105 kilometers of rail system lines that will go down in Konya's history, adding 27 times more to Konya's existing 4 kilometer rail system line, Konya will be connected to Anatolia." Together, we are starting the effort to make the city at the forefront in public transportation. I would like to thank our President for the value and importance he attaches to Konya, and our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdülkadir Uraloğlu, for his efforts to make Konya's rail system emerge with a new vision in the new period. I would also like to thank the Republic of Turkey State Railways and the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM). I wish success to my colleagues who contributed to the construction of this line. We hope to complete it as soon as possible and put it at the service of our citizens. May it be good for our Konya. "We are happy and proud to start our new 5-year service period with such a good work," he said.

“THIS PROJECT IS REALLY A HUGE PROJECT”

Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan stated that the Metropolitan Municipality works devotedly in every field and said, “Our Metropolitan Municipality is always working hard to ensure that our people reach happiness with these huge projects in transportation infrastructure, as well as in all other social and economic services. I would like to express my wishes that these activities will increasingly continue. Hopefully, our city is a place where happy individuals live, where these services increase the quality of life in the city center as well as in the rural areas, where these services continue to increase, and in this respect, our municipalities increase these services a little more every day with these qualified projects by improving both the favor they have received from you and their institutional capacity. . We would like to thank our Metropolitan Municipality, the study team, and the relevant ministries for their contributions. This project is a really big project. A project that provides very important services to our city and our people. "I wish it to be beneficial and auspicious," he said.
