Turkey, one of the first countries to support the Belt and Road Initiative, harmonized its processes regarding development strategies with China over time, and both countries became important partners within the framework of the Belt and Road.
Joint development, as one of the Belt and Road Initiative Principles, and the high-quality development proposed by China not only positively affect China-Turkey trade; Moreover, it also creates opportunities for bilateral cooperation with third parties. For example, in recent years, Turkey and China have carried out digital economic cooperation in the context of the Belt and Road. As the organic combination of digital economy development and the joint construction initiative of the Belt and Road, the construction of the digital Silk Road has provided an important e-platform for bilateral trade and helped Turkish small and medium-sized enterprises sell products to global markets.
In addition, Turkey has made every effort and created opportunities for Chinese companies to increase their investments in various sectors of the country, especially in high value-added ones. A well-trained workforce in digital technology and Turkey's investment in technological infrastructure make this country a good partner for China.
Recently, the Turkish Government and Turkish officials proposed the concept of “new infrastructure”. This new infrastructure includes cover receivers, portable terminals, 5G networks, extensive data centers and the industrial internet. To achieve this, Chinese companies can provide solutions for Turkey's digital transformation. Information transfer based on information technology such as 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial internet and internet of things can occur.
Experts believe that the digital age will accelerate the cooperation process between the two countries, and they also exchange views on how to develop a common cooperation area based on the concept of mutual benefit and on a win-win basis.
The Belt and Road has brought China closer to Europe. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative. On this occasion, Turkey's Ambassador to China Dr. İsmail Hakkı Musa stated that the cooperation between the leaders of both countries will increasingly focus on specific projects. The partnership on the Historical Silk Road and its progress towards a digital Silk Road with digital transformation is essentially a project of this type.
