
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, hosts the 74th International Astronautical Congress (IAC).
The opening of the congress, organized by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and platinum sponsored by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), was held with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
At IAC 2023, Turkey is represented by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, TUA President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım, T3 Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman Selçuk Bayraktar and the first national astronauts Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever. 500 competitors who produced projects at TEKNOFEST also take part in the congress.
In his speech at the event, President Aliyev said that they were honored to host such an organization. Stating that they have three satellites, two for telecommunication and one for observation, Aliyev said, “Azerbaijan has been a member of the international space club for more than 10 years. Azerbaijan will continue to develop space technologies. “This congress will give new impetus to the development of space technology in our country.” said.
HIGH TECHNOLOGY
Minister Kacır said that he was happy to participate in the largest event dedicated to space.
Stating that the role of space technologies, which shape the transformation in many areas from communication to security, continues to increase, Kacır said, “However, there is still a valid question: Will all humanity be able to benefit from space? Throughout history, researchers and inventors from different regions and civilizations have added value to scientific research in space. We must work together to ensure that everyone is included in this journey without leaving anyone behind. "There is an intense effort in Turkey to transform our nation into a high-tech society." he said.
GIANT TECHNOLOGY EVENTS
Kacır stated that they organize huge technology events where guests from all over the world are hosted, and said, "Our government is fully determined to support our candidacy to host IAC in Antalya in 2026." said.
The congress, with more than 101 thousand participants from 5 countries, will last until October 6 with sessions and exhibitions.
It will also become clear at this congress whether the congress in 2026 will be held in Turkey or Poland, one of the candidate countries.
Within the scope of Baku and IAC contacts, Minister Kacır held bilateral meetings with Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikaıl Jabbarov and United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology Sarah Al Amiri.
